HISTORY OF KRONOS AUTOMATIC
Swiss Union was founded in 1840 by Jaume Vendrell and Francisca Castella. By the 1920’s, their grandson Carlos Vendrell was at the helm and in 1930 he founded Kronos which fast became the premium brand of ‘Swiss Union’.
The technical expertise of ‘Swiss Union’ meant that from the start only the finest movements were used in the fabrication of every time piece and thanks to strong links with other Swiss and German manufacturers Kronos was established as a leading European marque.
Carlos Vendrell´s vision for the future led him to develop many mechanical pocket watch and wristwatch collections and when Luis Vendrell, the son of Carlos, took over the family business in the late 1940’s the range expanded further and by the 1980’s included the newly developed ‘quartz’ range.
Luis’s objectives were clear: that Kronos would always be a brand with its own personality and character, well-known for producing very special watches recognised for their touch of exclusivity and originality, avoiding any idea of mass production. At the same time there continued to be a commitment to good value.
These principles remain in force today and continue to inspire new generations in the 21st century.
